I attended Microsoft's second BI conference in Seattle this week. It was slightly smaller than the first in May 2007, though economic times are tough for conferences. Unlike the first conference, this was not a launch of anything specific but more of an update on where Microsoft is. And where that is... is on the way to the next thing, which isn't quite here yet.
Yes SQL Server 2008 just launched a couple months ago, and it seems like to MS that this is way old news. The main things on display were the massive changes in Reporting Services (that will be a different blog).
There is Project Kilamanjaro. Project Gemini. Excel Services. The de-emphasis on Performance Point Server as a standalone product and just as part of MOSS and Office. Acquisitions of SoftArtisians IP, 90 Degree Software IP, Dundas charting capabilities that didn't make it into MS RS 2008.
